Is chemistry a memorizing subject?

High school and college-level international Chemistry is challenging for many students. They get less interest to study than other subjects. So they are giving less effort and scoring less than physics and mathematics. The people who studied or studied this subject, say that chemistry is a memorizing subject. As a result, they remark chemistry is a difficult subject.

Why do students think chemistry is a difficult subject?

I personally don’t fully agree with the above comments. Chemistry is not a difficult subject.  It is a bit more challenging than physics and mathematics. Also, chemistry is an interesting subject. Many funny and magical experiments are present in this subject. It is related to day-to-day life. Many color-changing experiments are here. We can’t imagine a day without the contributions of chemistry.  But the question is – why do students think chemistry is a difficult subject?

Lots of interesting things are present in chemistry.

From my experience, I can say that chemistry is not a difficult subject, rather it is interesting. I found an interest in chemistry during my university life.  My main strength in chemistry was diagrams, and mathematical sections and I could make many mnemonics in chemistry and enjoyed a lot to make mnemonics and shared with others. So, I never missed the mathematical questions of chemistry. Besides, I liked a lot the inorganic and organic reactions. I tried to understand the reactions in detail. Therefore, I was much investigated to observe any change in chemistry.       

Individual instructions can make chemistry easy.

When I start to teach the international chemistry syllabus, firstly, I organized the syllabus into different modules. At first basic modules, then gradually advanced modules. Secondly, I organized the lessons according to the learning outcomes and prepared the topic according to the needs of the students. Thirdly, I made many worksheets on each topic. Those were fully customized. Individual students could understand. The practice papers were also different for different students. In my class, each and every individual student could understand. I really enjoyed chemistry teaching.
