Cambridge International O-level chemistry Paper#4 is an alternative to lab paper. It is a written paper of compulsory short-answer and structured questions. This paper is designed to test familiarity with laboratory practical procedures.
In this article, you will be able to learn about the detailed preparation methods of Cambridge O Level Chemistry Paper#4.
Cambridge International O Level Chemistry (5070) has a total of four components.
These are:
- Paper#1: MCQ
- Paper#2: Structured questions.
- Paper#3: Lab Paper
- Paper#4: Alternative to Lab
Paper#1 and Paper#2 are mandatory. But you have to take anyone from paper#3 and paper#4. Cambridge doesn’t allow paper#3 in some cases, then you must have to take paper#4.
As an O-level candidate, you have to know some important information about this paper. The time duration of this paper is 1 hour and marks 60 up to 2022. From the year 2023, it will be 40 marks and the questing pattern will be similar to lab paper (Paper#3). So, you need some guidelines and practice materials to take the preparation.
When you are going to take preparation for this paper, initially, you have to know the following topics:
- The general idea about the diagrams of apparatus.
- Describing, explaining and commenting on experimental arrangements.
- Experimental techniques and procedures.
- The table completion of data and plotting graphs.
- Interpreting and drawing conclusions.
- Evaluate observations and experimental data.
- Describing tests for gases, ions, oxidising and reducing agents and draw conclusions from such tests.
- Required to perform simple calculations.
Plus, you have to review some topics from the theory part of Paper#1 and Paper#2. You can learn those from the course of Cambridge O-level Chemistry Course at no cost. Do you want to see the free course? But you have to log in first!
The reactivity of metals, acids, bases and salts, electrolysis, separation techniques, etc. topics are important for this paper, which are present in the theory course.
Many questions come from the chemical calculation part. So, you need to know the basic formula and techniques for calculations. Also, you need practice materials to develop your skill.
One question of marks 10-12 is set about data handling, graph drawing, and evaluation. Table completion is quite easy but you have to be skilled in drawing graphs and evaluations. You need to put the data on the graph by Dot Circle (ʘ) or Cross Mark (×). Don’t take more than half of a small square to put Dot Circle or Cross Mark. Then you have to draw the best fitted straight line or curve depending on the question. How can you be skilled without the proper guidelines?
You will get the step-by-step direct guideline and a lot of practice materials for this in the following course:
